기소로부터 약 반년이라는 조기에 재판이 마무리된 배경에는 사법 거래가 존재한다고 합니다. 이 거래로 클라크는 성인 범죄자가 아니라 청소년 범죄자로 취급되었고 최소 10년이었던 징역기간이 3년으로 단축되었습니다. 3년의 징역기간에는 클라크가 체포 이후 구금된 229일간이 합산된다고 합니다. 또한 출소 후에는 법집행기관의 허가와 감독 없이 컴퓨터를 사용하는 것이 금지되는 보호감찰 처분도 3년간 부과됩니다.
플로리다주 검사 앤드류 워렌 씨는 판결문에서 "클라크는 연예인의 Twitter 계정을 탈취하고 근면한 일반인의 돈을 훔쳤습니다. 그는 그 범죄의 책임을 져야 하며, 그 사실을 세상의 다른 사기꾼들에게도 알려야 합니다. 그러나 어떤 아이라도 장래를 최대한 파괴하지 않고 교훈을 배우게 하는 것이 우리의 목표라고 인식하고 있습니다"라고 마무리했습니다.
